Psychiatric Rehabilitation

Structured psychiatric care with therapy, medication review and a graded return to daily living.

Medically reviewed by Mr. Pratik Masal, MBA (Healthcare Management)

Psychiatric rehabilitation at Sharanam is structured residential mental-health care — psychiatric review, individual and group therapy, medication management and a graded return to daily functioning — for adults whose condition needs more than outpatient treatment can provide.

Who this is for

People who are stable enough not to need an acute psychiatric ward, but not yet able to manage independently: after a hospital admission, after a relapse, or when illness has eroded the routines of ordinary life.

What the care involves

  • Psychiatric assessment and regular review by a consultant psychiatrist.
  • Medication management, including monitoring for side effects — which is often why people stop taking it.
  • Individual and group therapy, delivered consistently rather than occasionally.
  • Structured daily living — sleep, meals, activity and responsibility, rebuilt in graded steps.
  • Family counselling, because recovery that ignores the family rarely holds.
  • Discharge planning from the first week, not the last.

Dignity and privacy

Mental illness still carries stigma in India, and we take confidentiality seriously. Admission, records and correspondence are handled discreetly.

Questions families ask

No. Sharanam provides rehabilitation, not acute inpatient psychiatry. Residents are here voluntarily and the environment is residential. If someone needs acute or involuntary care, we will say so honestly and help you find the right facility.

It varies with the person and the condition — typically weeks to several months. The care plan is reviewed monthly and we will always give you an honest view of progress rather than an optimistic one.

Yes, with the resident's consent. Family counselling and care-review meetings are part of the program, because outcomes are consistently better when the family understands the illness.

Yes. Records are confidential, correspondence is discreet, and information is shared only with the clinicians involved in care and with people the resident consents to.
