Dementia care at Sharanam is long-term residential care for people living with dementia, delivered in a secure memory-care wing with 24/7 supervision, structured daily routines and caregivers specifically trained in dementia communication. It is designed to reduce distress and preserve dignity at every stage of the condition.
Who this program is for
Families usually come to us at the point where dementia has begun to outpace what home care can safely manage — when there is wandering, night-time agitation, refusal of food or medication, or a fall that could have been serious. You do not need a formal diagnosis to talk to us; our physician will assess.
What the care involves
- A secure, wander-safe environment. Circular walking routes, clear sight-lines, orientation cues and doors that keep residents safe without feeling locked in.
- Structured routine. Meals, activities and rest at the same times each day. Predictability is one of the most effective non-pharmacological tools in dementia care.
- Trained response to distress. Our caregivers are taught to validate rather than correct, and to look for the unmet need behind agitation — pain, hunger, fear, over-stimulation.
- Medication review. A supervising physician reviews psychotropic medication monthly, with an explicit goal of using the minimum effective dose.
- Cognitive and sensory activity. Music, reminiscence, gentle movement and garden time — chosen for the person, not the diagnosis.
What we do not promise
Dementia is progressive, and we will not tell you otherwise. What good care changes is not the trajectory of the disease but the quality of the life lived alongside it: less fear, less pain, fewer hospital admissions, and more moments of recognition and calm.
Keeping the family close
You will have a named caregiver who knows your parent, structured updates, and a monthly clinical review you are invited to. Visiting is open. Many families tell us the hardest part was the decision, not the outcome.
