Sex addiction, more precisely described as compulsive sexual behaviour, is a pattern of sexual thoughts or activity that feels out of the person's control and continues despite causing distress or harm to their health, relationships or responsibilities. It is often linked to underlying anxiety, depression, trauma or difficulty regulating emotion. Sharanam provides discreet, medically supervised residential treatment that addresses the behaviour and its underlying causes with clinical care and without judgement.
What the treatment involves
- A confidential, non-judgemental assessment.
- Individual therapy, including approaches that address trauma and emotion regulation.
- Screening and treatment for co-occurring depression, anxiety or substance use.
- Group therapy and support, where appropriate.
- Work on the underlying drivers rather than shame.
- Family or couples support and a relapse-prevention plan.
What to expect
Compulsive sexual behaviour is generally a chronic condition. The goal is to understand and manage the drivers, restore control and reduce harm, with relapse treated as part of a long-term process rather than a moral failing. It draws on the same principles as our addiction recovery program.
