Alcohol use disorder is a medical condition in which a person cannot reliably control their drinking despite harm to their health, work or relationships. Sharanam provides medically supervised residential treatment — beginning with monitored detox and continuing through counselling and relapse prevention.
What the treatment involves
- Medically supervised detox. This matters: alcohol withdrawal can be genuinely dangerous, causing seizures or delirium tremens, and is not safe to attempt alone at home. Withdrawal is monitored and managed with medication around the clock.
- Assessment of co-occurring mental illness — depression, anxiety and trauma very often sit underneath a drinking problem.
- Individual and group counselling, without moralising.
- Family therapy, because dependence affects the whole household.
- A written relapse-prevention plan — triggers, coping strategies and support contacts.
- Aftercare and continued contact after discharge.
What to realistically expect
Alcohol dependence is a chronic, often relapsing condition, and relapse is not a moral failure — it is a feature of the illness that the plan is built to catch early. Detox alone is not treatment; lasting change comes from the weeks of work that follow it. You can read more about our approach to addiction recovery.
