Gambling and betting addiction (gambling disorder) is a recognised behavioural addiction in which a person continues to gamble despite serious and mounting harm to their finances, relationships and wellbeing, often unable to stop even when they want to. Sharanam provides medically supervised residential treatment that addresses both the behaviour and the distress that drives it.
What the treatment involves
- Comprehensive assessment, including screening for co-occurring depression, anxiety or substance use.
- Individual and group therapy, including cognitive behavioural approaches.
- Medication management where a co-occurring condition requires it, with monitoring.
- Work on the underlying drivers — stress, escape, impulsivity — not just the behaviour.
- Practical support around debt, triggers and access to gambling.
- Family therapy and a written relapse-prevention plan.
About relapse
Gambling addiction is a chronic, relapsing condition. Relapse can be part of recovery rather than a failure, and treatment focuses on the underlying drivers and long-term change. It shares much of its approach with our addiction recovery program.
