MDMA addiction is compulsive use of MDMA — commonly known as ecstasy or molly — where a person keeps using despite harm, and increasingly relies on it to feel normal or social. Sharanam provides supervised residential treatment focused on the psychological dependence and the mood problems that follow heavy use.
What the treatment involves
- Assessment and monitoring. MDMA does not usually cause a dangerous physical withdrawal, but heavy use is commonly followed by depression, anxiety, poor sleep and low motivation, which are monitored and managed.
- Treatment of co-occurring depression or anxiety, which frequently drive the use.
- Individual and group counselling addressing the psychological dependence and the social settings tied to it.
- Craving management and relapse-prevention planning.
- Aftercare and continued contact after discharge.
What to realistically expect
The low mood and mental fog that follow heavy MDMA use usually lift over weeks of abstinence, though this can take time. The harder work is changing the patterns and settings that surround the use. Relapse is common in any dependence and is treated as part of a chronic condition, not as a personal failing.
