Opioid and morphine-class addiction is dependence on opioid drugs — heroin, morphine, codeine, tramadol and prescription opioid painkillers — where the body has become physically dependent and stopping brings intense withdrawal and craving. Sharanam provides medically supervised residential treatment, in which supervised withdrawal and craving management are central.
What the treatment involves
- Medically supervised withdrawal. Opioid withdrawal is intensely uncomfortable and, in people who are already unwell or dehydrated, can become medically risky. It is managed with medication and monitoring rather than endured alone.
- Craving management, which may include medication, since craving is what most often drives relapse.
- Assessment of co-occurring mental illness such as depression, anxiety or trauma.
- Individual and group counselling, without moralising.
- A written relapse-prevention plan and family involvement.
- Aftercare and continued contact after discharge.
What to realistically expect
Opioid dependence is a chronic, relapsing condition, and the risk of relapse after withdrawal is real — which is exactly why craving management and aftercare matter as much as the detox itself. Relapse is not a moral failure but a feature of the illness, and the door here stays open. You can read more about our approach to addiction recovery.
